    Dear Parents and Carers

I would like to say a genuine and heartfelt thank you for your understanding and support this week. We take for granted the beautiful nature of our surroundings, so when they pose a challenge with the weather it really makes me understand the sheer size of our catchment area. I would also like to thank our young people who have been amazing this week with the uncertainty.

    Dear Parents and Carers

So, we come to the end of the first term of the year. A third of the academic year is done and there has been much to celebrate in this time and our young people have had the opportunity to take part in so much. This week's festive showcase highlighted how talented our young people are, and it was the perfect way to celebrate Christmas with the wider school community. Today is our annual Christmas bazaar and the generosity of school community really shines through in this moment.

We have come to the end of mock exams and staff are now working hard to mark the work that Year 11 students have produced. We have had a busy week in the library with our scholastic book fair. It is always wonderful to see young people enthusiastic about reading as it is one of the most powerful tools in education.

    Dear Parents and Carers

We have had a welcome respite from the challenging weather of the week before and this has allowed for a much more settled week in school. At this point in the year, I am required to review what progress we are making as a school and there are lots of positives to focus on.

    Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you for your support and understanding this week in what have proved to be difficult weather conditions. The position of the headteacher is challenging in these moments because you feel the moral weight of responsibility for the safety of the entire school community and, given the geographical area we cover, it is hard to be truly confident in the weather conditions. I would also like to thank your young people who have dealt extremely well with the difficulties this week.

    Dear Parents and Carers

On Monday we collectively took time as a school to reflect on the Armistice and through our assembly programme this week we have thought about the Royal British Legion's notion of 'Service above self'. I have talked with each year group about how we can think about others in our daily lives and maybe share some small acts of kindness.

Thank you for supporting students to come back to school in the positive manner that they have this week. There has been a lot happening in school in the last couple of weeks. Year 11 students have returned from Barcelona and have had many great experiences there. We also took a theatre trip to see Run Rebel on the last day of term and the students spoke positively of this experience.

We come to the end of the first Autumn half term - a term full of activity. It has been so lovely to see the Year 7 students settle into school and enjoy their learning.  Years 8 and 9 continue to make progress in their learning while Year 10 are beginning to understand the rigours of their qualifications.  Year 11 in particular have shown a positive attitude towards their last few months in Hope Valley College, engaging with their learning and the process of looking ahead to their next destination.

We come to the end of Week 7.  We hosted a tense football match earlier in the week, which went down to penalties, and our Key Stage 4 football team showed immense sportsmanship and real grit and determination. We also hosted a netball match on Wednesday and our student body again represented themselves impeccably.

    Dear Parents and Carers

Week 6 has ended with a beautiful day of sunshine, one of those days that makes you feel glad to be in a school in the middle of the Peak District. We have come to the end of week's focus on attendance. Sending your young person to school is the most important thing you can do to help them in their future choices. If you feel your young person is finding this difficult, please contact school so that we can work together on this.
