A group of eighteen students from Year 8 to Year 10 have joined together to create a new Drama company called The Hopefuls. Their first performance, in lieu of a whole school drama production, will take place at Hope Valley College next week. They have chosen the play “the Wardrobe” written by Sam Holcroft. It will be performed on the evenings of Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th January in the College hall. Tickets, £5 per adult and £3 per student are now on sale via ticket source
The play explores British history, how the country was shaped and how connected we are with our past.
The play’s action is set in different time periods across several centuries, all within the same large wardrobe. In each scene, a group of children climb into the wardrobe, seeking sanctuary of one sort or another. There are twelve scenes in all, ranging from the bedchamber of Elizabeth of York on 27 October 1485, to ‘a museum, somewhere in Britain, 2014’.
