After a fantastic Sports Day on Thursday 22 June, HVC students today (Friday 23 June) braved the wind and rain and completed a sponsored walk of either 6 or 9 miles around the beautiful Hope Valley to help raise funds for three charities which are close to our communities: Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Holly’s Footprint. To date (17 July 2017), students have helped to raise £2,239.
Students walked from College up Lose Hill and along to Hollins Cross. Students on the short walk then returned back to College via Castleton. Students on the long walk carried along the ridge from Hollins Cross to Mam Torr, then followed the Limestone Way down into Castleton and back to College.
In the afternoon, 60 students took part in a cyclcross event run by Cycle Derby, in memory of Charlie Craig who died in January this year. Charlie was an elite cyclecross athlete and had recently been runner-up in the National British Cyclecross Championship.
Our students have been joined today by many friends, family members and neighbours in our community to raise funds in memory of all the following Hope Valley College students:
- George Green
- Mark Cottrill
- Kyle Hancock
- Sarah Hayes
- Richard Hill
- Holly Swainson
- Aidan Bancroft
- Charlie Craig
